Consortio, in collaboration with a prominent company dedicated to ensuring the safety of Britain's busiest inland waterway, is seeking an experienced Senior Field Engineer. Operating the most advanced port control service, the company facilitates the secure movement of leisure and commercial vessels, actively promoting the use of the river for trade and travel. Responsible for 100 miles of river, environmental protection, and user safety, this company plays a crucial role in waterway safety.
As a Senior Field Engineer, you will be responsible for providing high-quality technical engineering expertise, maintenance, and support across a range of navigation systems in-field sensors. Your focus will be on the safety of navigation and customer service excellence. This role involves planned, preventative maintenance, equipment replacement, and leading or supporting project-related integration and delivery. Additionally, the Senior Field Engineer will take on greater strategic responsibilities within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure continuous functionality of all navigation systems sensors, including radar transceivers, antennas, associated gearboxes, radios, AIS base stations, microwave links, CCTV, warning lights, tide gauges, and meteorological sensors.
- Diagnose and resolve faults, including complex technical issues, across the full range of sensors in a timely manner.
- Escalate issues promptly to appropriate colleagues, management team, or suppliers as necessary.
- Log actions taken, investigate root causes, and capture future requirements.
- Share information appropriately and keep customers or stakeholders updated.
- Install, monitor, and maintain equipment related to the navigation systems sensor estate.
- Contribute to the development and creation of maintenance and replacement plans for in-field equipment.
- Research and specify replacement equipment, assist with procurement, and assess new equipment, services, and systems.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Degree in electronic engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable project management experience or qualification.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in a comparable role or setting.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of related H&S regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, Working at Height, COSHH).
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of risks and relevant mitigations associated with the team's work (e.g., WaH, EMF, and other hazards).
- Knowledge, understanding, and application of relevant cybersecurity principles (minimum Cyber Essentials, NIS, and ISO standards).
- Full driving license.
